The reticular formation in the brainstem and the thalamus in the limbic system both control wake/sleep. Do they work together or on different parts or in different ways to control this autonomic function? Thank you:)
As with any part of the brain, that is a yes/no. The Reticular Formation is filled with over 100 nuclei, most sensory, some motor. There is no way that I can outdo Kenhub.com on anatomy and physiology. For example, the pineal gland releases melatonin and is a bridge between the two structures.
